Freediving
Warm water. Small groups. Real certification.
Molchanovs courses from Discover to Wave 2 in Unawatuna.
Unawatuna is one of the most practical places in Sri Lanka to learn freediving: warm water, reef access by boat, a full tourist infrastructure, and calm mornings in season. Lanka Freediving is a Molchanovs school running November–April with a maximum of four students per course.
Why freedive here (not just snorkel)
One breath changes how you move underwater — quieter, slower, closer to turtles and reef fish without bubble noise. Proper training covers breathwork, equalisation, buddy safety, and rescue skills scuba courses never touch.
Courses we run
- Discover — half day, €120, no certification, taste of breath-hold and pool/shallow water
- Wave 1 — 3 days, €350, full Molchanovs certification to 12–20 m
- Wave 2 — 4 days, €450, advanced techniques to 24–30 m
- Retreat — 5 days immersive, from €900, certification + hotel + meals
Full breakdown: courses page and Molchanovs explained.
Typical day
Morning theory or breathwork, pool skills mid-morning, open water after lunch when the bay is calm. Small groups mean actual coaching time — not waiting on twelve other students.
Who teaches
Julian is a Molchanovs instructor, Evolution Spearfishing instructor, and competition safety diver. Training follows Molchanovs standards with conservative progression — depth is earned, not forced.
What to bring
Swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, towel. We provide wetsuits, fins, masks, and lines. Must swim 200 m for Wave 1+. More in our FAQ.
