Getting started
Is freediving safe for beginners?
Yes — when taught properly. We follow the Molchanovs safety framework: never dive alone, always with a trained buddy, progressive depth. We start in the pool. Your instructor is a Molchanovs instructor and a competition safety diver.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Wave 1 and above: swim 200 metres unassisted. Discover: basic water comfort is enough.
What fitness level do I need?
Moderate is enough. Freediving is relaxation more than power. We'll talk through any medical conditions when you book.
How is it different from scuba?
One breath. No tanks, no bubbles. Quieter, closer to the fish, built on awareness rather than kit.
What is Molchanovs?
The leading freediving education system. Wave 1–3 are recognised worldwide. Certification is digital and does not expire.
Courses
Which course should I start with?
Short on time: Discover. Ready to commit: Wave 1. Already certified: we'll place you in Wave 2 or coaching.
How many people?
Maximum 4 per course. The retreat takes up to 8 guests; water sessions stay small.
What's included?
Wave courses: theory, pool, open water, boat, all gear, photos. Accommodation and meals are not in the course price.
I'm scared of deep water.
Many of our best students started there. We never push past your comfort. Depth is earned.
Sri Lanka
Best time to visit?
November through April. We don't run courses outside that window.
Where is the school?
Unawatuna, 15 minutes from Galle Fort, about 2.5 hours from Colombo. Exact meeting point comes with your booking.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, reef-safe sunscreen, towel, flip-flops. We provide the kit. A rash vest helps.
Is the water warm?
Usually 27–29°C. Most people are fine in 3 mm or a rash vest.
Booking
How do I book?

Sometimes. Discover is easiest. Wave courses need a few days for theory. Peak December–January: book early.
